ENGLISH GUIDED TOUR ONBOARD THE SWEDISH SHIP GÖTHEBORG
The Swedish Ship Götheborg is the largest historical sailing ship in operation. She is a replica of a sailing ship from the 18th century. In 1745 the original ship ran aground and sank only a few hundred meters from her homeport in Gothenburg.
Today the Swedish Ship Götheborg is sailing again. During 2005 and 2007, the ship sailed the historic route to China and back. Since then she has been sailing in seas around the world as a promotion platform for Sweden and Swedish Industry. In the summer of 2010 during the celebrations of the Swedish royal wedding The Swedish Ship Götheborg hosted the first official wedding dinner for the royal family.
Experience the histories and adventures, the harsh life onboard, the expeditions of today and our daily work to keep the ship under sails. Guides dressed in 18th century costumes to show the ship in its uniqueness.
A guided tour is divided into two parts first the story of the Swedish East India Company activities in the 1700s and then on current construction, maintenance and expeditions with the ship. The tour is scheduled to take approximately 40 minutes. After the guided tour the visitors have access to our souvenir shop and to the exhibition hall.
The tour starts at the gate at Pir Fyra 2, Eriksberg.
